Position Title: Director of Library Services

Job Summary

The Director of Library Services provides direction and planning for the broad range of digital resources available at Westcliff University to support teaching and learning. The Director is committed to providing integrated resources that enable students and faculty to creatively and productively advance academic and curricular goals. This role reports to the Dean of the LITE Center.

Primary Responsibilities Include

  • Curate and maintain the university’s comprehensive network of digital resources
  • Evaluate student and faculty proficiency in digital resource utilization
  • Develop targeted training programs to enhance information literacy based on data analysis
  • Oversee the development and acquisition of instructional support materials relevant to the effective use of digital resource utilization
  • Evaluate the accessibility of library resources for students of all abilities and provide the institution with strategic recommendations to enhance accessibility
  • Advise students and faculty in the strategic allocation of resources for research endeavors
  • Plan and lead select research-focused initiatives and events, to include the Faculty Fellows program and the Research Colloquium
  • Curate content on the library webpage in GAP
  • Serve on the WIJAR Editorial Board
  • Serve as subject matter expert on behalf of Library & Digital Resources Center in all accreditation matters and reports
  • Serve as the ProQuest Dissertation Submission Administrator on behalf of the institution
  • Review and approve student dissertations which meet university standards
  • Oversee the management of the university’s internal dissertation repository
  • Remain informed on pivotal issues and emerging trends in academic support, digital scholarship, information and data literacy, open access, open educational resources, research data management, research impact metrics, scholarly communication, academic libraries, and higher education, and integrate this knowledge into planning and reporting

Required Knowledge And Skills

  • Strong leadership and effective management skills, including proactive problem-solving, self-motivation, and overseeing daily operations, strategic planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.
  • Experience in designing and delivering instructional programs to support academic research and learning, and the ability to collaborate with faculty to integrate library resources into the curriculum.
  • Familiarity with scholarly communication trends, open access publishing, and research impact metrics, along with skills in providing research support, including literature reviews, citation management, and data management.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with university leadership, faculty, students, and external partners, coupled with strong collaboration skills for working with various stakeholders within and outside the university.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, from planning to execution and assessment, with skills in setting goals, establishing timelines, and ensuring successful project completion.
  • Visionary thinking to anticipate future trends in digital libraries and higher education, coupled with an innovative approach to developing and implementing new services, programs, and technologies.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Library Science or a closely related field
  • Minimum two years experience working in an educational environment (post-secondary education preferred)
  • Proficient in use of techniques used in academic database research
  • Familiar with Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WSCUC) expectations for library services at universities
