ABOUT THE CIIS LIBRARY
The University's commitment to quality instruction and innovative research is expressed in the collections of the Laurance S. Rockefeller Library. The Library collections include a broad selection of disciplinary and transdisciplinary scholarly materials in physical and electronic formats: books, journals, audiovisual materials, research databases, and academic tools.
The Library supports the research and learning in all schools at CIIS, and the collections are particularly strong in the ?elds of counseling and psychology, philosophy and religion, social and cultural anthropology, human sexuality, integrative and complementary health, integral and transdisciplinary methodologies, and diversity and social justice.
The Library has a strong commitment to inclusive, mindful, and antiracist practices and all Library Staff members will contribute to advance the goal of fostering a diverse and inclusive community at CIIS.
POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Dean of Research and Academic Support, University Librarian, the Reference and Instruction Librarian will collaborate with Library Staff and other University colleagues to situate the Laurance S. Rockefeller Library as a key partner in student learning at CIIS. This position (exempt, full-time 1.0 FTE) will participate in the development, delivery, and assessment of services that support the teaching, learning and research needs of the CIIS community, for undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty. They will be an integral member of the reference staff providing online and in-person reference support and offering library instruction to promote information literacy and support the curriculum of our academic programs. Additionally, they will participate in collection development activities, develop research guides, tutorials, workshops, and supportive educational materials.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Reference
Provide individual and group research assistance: in-person, online, on the phone, and by e-mail, to Library users (from Bachelor's completion through Faculty level).
Facilitate, coordinate, and provide training for Springshare LibChat reference chat service and LibAnswers support ticketing system and FAQ bank.
Offer scholarly advising, research support and aid in study skills and digital literacy development.
Design, create, curate and maintain Library content to support reference, instruction, and Library operations: LibGuides, FAQs, handouts, virtual and physical displays, demonstration videos, tutorials, and other informational and training materials.
Train circulation staff to provide ready-reference and to field and escalate reference questions that come to the Circulation Desk and through LibAnswers.
Promote usage of Library resources.
Regularly assess effectiveness of reference services through in-person and online surveys and questionnaires, or other methods in collaboration with reference and instruction colleagues, and work with Library leadership to prepare evidence for formal assessment plans and reports
Instruction
Collaborate with Outreach and Instruction Librarian to implement innovative pedagogy and instruction strategies while continually assessing and developing the Library curriculum, including working with faculty and Academic Programs to create co-curricular learning outcomes that support information literacy, research skills, and technical and media literacy.

Develop and deliver research skills and information literacy instruction, library orientations, and special topic library workshops.
Provide embedded librarianship at intensives, retreats, and cohort weekends; some evening and weekend work will be required (particularly at the start of each semester).
Regularly assess effectiveness of library instruction through in-person and online surveys and questionnaires, or other methods in collaboration with reference and instruction colleagues, and work with the Outreach and Instruction Librarian and the reference team to prepare evidence for formal assessment plans and reports.
As a program liaison, work with Faculty and academic support staff to promote library services, assess programmatic needs, and provide customized content to Academic Programs.
Work closely with other Library Staff to support course reserves and coordinate instruction requested from assigned programs and departments.
Collection Development
As a function of liaison activities, recommend titles for the subject areas relevant to assigned Programs and Departments, actively curating the collections to be aligned with the teaching, learning and research needs of the University.
Per CIIS Library collection development policy, assess and shape the Library collections with a specific emphasis on electronic books and digital A/V resources, including journals and databases.
Other areas of responsibility
Participate in staff meetings, planning, and problem-solving meetings; in general work as a member of the Library team.
As needed, assist patrons at Circulation Desk with locating materials and in related matters.
Other tasks may be assigned, and responsibilities may shift, in response to Library needs and changes in the University (in specific) and higher education (in general).
Stay current with advances and concepts in applicable library fields
Pursue trainings and courses on product changes, technical advancements, and new concepts as needed.
Attend workshops and conferences related to job responsibilities as staff development funds allow.
Advise colleagues and the Library leadership on developments in libraries and make recommendations for library actionable items when appropriate.
Engage in leadership opportunities and committees and other service work within Library, University and external professional groups.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

examination of the ways that authority, academic and otherwise, is constructed and contextual, and facilitation of practices that allow for diverse ways of learning and knowing in the conduct of academic research.
Master of Library Science (or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited institution.
One year of related professional experience in reference services in an academic library setting.
Experience teaching or training, preferably in a higher education or library setting.
Strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills, as well as ability to successfully balance priorities and multitask.
Excellent communication skills and demonstrated professionalism. The ability to authentically engage and listen attentively is critical for success.
Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as flexibly, collegially, and collaboratively with diverse constituencies in a busy office and across departments.
Comfort with ambiguity.
Understanding that job duties continue to change with the evolving research library environment Willingness to explore new technologies and to find ways to incorporate them in order to enhance services and complete tasks more efficiently.
Ability to adapt quickly to new standards and requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with the following applications: Springshare suite of Library software, such as LibGuides CMS, LibCal, LibAnswers LibChat and LibWizard.
Graphic design, video editing, and Web development applications used to support and design instructional materials such as Camtasia, Canva, Loom, and the Adobe Creative Suite.
Course management systems, preferably Canvas.
Library acquisitions software, preferably GOBI.
OCLC WMS integrated library system (ILS).
Demonstrated ability to design learning outcomes and provide instruction to promote information literacy.
Experience planning, promoting, and delivering programming, preferably in an academic setting.
Experience training and supervising student workers, interns, volunteers, or part-time staff.
Requirements:
SCHEDULE
Full time/40 hours week. Some weekend/evening hours will occasionally be required.
ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS
Occasional work performed alone. Continuous virtual presence for collaboration with others, and constant work around and with other people.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES
This position requires attention to detail, good memory, ability to work under deadline pressure, sitting and standing for long periods of time, oral and written communication, keyboarding for significant portions of the workday, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, reaching, patience, and tact to perform the essential functions.
LOCATION
FLEX: 3 days/week on campus (flex to add onsite as needed for events and with seasonal demand, and possible flex to more remote when classes are not in session). Weekdays. Some evening and weekend hours may occasionally be required.
Additional Information:
WAGES AND BENEFITS
Range: $73,000 to $76,000 annually.
Salarycommensurate with skills and experience andinclude a competitive benefits package.

Working Conditions - Duties are primarily performed in an office environment at a desk or computer terminal, typically Monday through Friday.
